Bridal Portraits at Melrose Knitting Mill

Raleigh's Melrose Kitting Mill is the ideal venue for a winter bridal portrait session.

The plan for Grace's photo session evolved several times. We had originally designed this shoot as an engagement session in Charleston, South Carolina. Unfortunately, the weekend that we selected for the shoot was the same weekend that Hurricane Irma decided to deliver three feet of flood water to the historic southern city. We rescheduled the shoot and decided that it would be a bridal session instead of an engagement shoot as planned. But as fate had it, our rescheduled date was also rained out so we needed a third plan. With cold winter weather setting in, and the wedding date quickly approaching, we decided it would be best to do the shoot indoors.

We selected Melrose Knitting Mill in downtown Raleigh because it provided the ideal combination of elegant charm and a variety of shoot options. Melrose Knitting Mill is an urban reclaimed mill, located in the heart of the city with tall ceilings, arched windows and open floor-plan. This venue features a large indoor ceremony location, an on-site chef and it can accommodate 170 wedding guests. Chad and Janna from Chad Biggs Event Planning & Design helped us coordinate the details and everything went smoothly. This shoot combined the rich textures and colors from the mill with the beautiful natural window light. We used the whole venue and photographed upstairs, downstairs and even outside of the building to capture the colors of the brickwork and the signature green doors of the mill. Grace's Oleg Cassini and Vera Wang dresses were selected from David's Bridal in Raleigh. Shoes were Jack Rogers and the beautiful bouquet of flowers was created by Grace from scratch.

Not even mother nature could stop us from getting this shoot done. I enjoy the feel of the images, the tones and the story behind it. Here are some of my favorite images from the session. Wedding images from the Rickhouse in Durham, North Carolina coming to the blog soon.
