WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT?

Even if you already have pictures together, there are several reasons to do an engagement shoot before your wedding. Many couples use the engagement photos for "save the date cards" and invitations. Couples can also select a photo from the session and add a large matte so guests can sign it on the wedding day. Some couple elect to create an engagement photo album that showcases their relationship. But most importantly, an engagement session is a great way for the coupleto get to know the photographer before the wedding day. You will experience what it feels like to be in front of the camera and it is a great opportunity to put you at ease for your wedding day. When the wedding day arrives, we will be like old friends.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR FOR OUR ENGAGEMENT PHOTO SESSION?

The proper clothing is important for a successful engagement session. It is always a good idea to plan the wardrobe in advance so that each outfit complements each other. Solid, natural colors generally work well since patterns can be too distracting for the camera. Bold colors can “vibrate” with the camera and logos on can be distasteful in photos. White shirts or dresses are acceptable, but can be hard to photograph in bright sunlight. Up-scale jeans are encouraged and add to a sophisticated look. The Studio can offer a wardrobe consultation if you are unsure about what might work best for your engagement photo session.

CAN WE CHANGE OUTFITS DURING OUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION?

Yes, we encourage clients to bring at least two sets of outfits for a session. One set of clothing can be casual and the other set can be more formal or professional. That way several distinctly different looks can be created during the session for variety in your photos.

HOW DO WE CHOOSE A LOCATION FOR THE SESSION?

There are so many great locations in the Raleigh – Durham area to make photographs. The Studio will work with you to develop a plan and select a location and style for your engagement photos. The engagement shoot is collaboration between the client and the Studio designed to reflect the unique personality of the couple.

WHAT TIME OF DAY is best FOR ENGAGEMENT photos?

As a photographer, the quality of light is very important. In the late afternoon, the light is usually softer and more flattering and that helps to create better photos. We do not suggest scheduling your photography session in the middle of the day since the sun creates harsh shadows and can be unflattering. Late afternoon is best.

CAN WE BRING PROPS - OR EVEN OUR DOG TO THE ENGAGEMENT SHOOT?

Yes, clients are encouraged to bring props to the photo session as long as the items enhance your relationship as a couple. Bringing a familiar item can also help the client relax in front of the camera so the photos turn out natural. And if you love dogs, it makes it even easier for us to capture your true personality.

HOW MANY ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS WILL WE RECEIVE?

Clients can usually expect 50-75 high-quality images in both high-resolution print size and low-resolution web size from an engagement session. This provides a variety of options to choose from for save the date cards, a personal wedding website or an engagement album.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO DELIVER OUR ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHS?

The Studio strives to return engagement photos 1-2 weeks after the session. However, this timeline can vary slightly depending upon the time of year and the volume of work scheduled for editing. We try to  a small sample of teaser photos a day or two after the session as a sneak peak of what is to come.

DO YOU OFFER MAKE-UP SERVICES?

The Studio can recommend and coordinate a make-up artist for your engagement photo session. Along with the proper choices of clothing, make-up can significantly enhance the look of your engagement photographs.
